Love these frames!

They are absolutely beautiful! I bought the black, dark brown, camel and red leather frames. Be warned – they do NOT have wall hangers on them. The description is very clear about a black velvet easel backing for tabletop display but I must’ve glossed over that part. Completely my own fault!

My only complaint is that I ordered four of them and I asked Amazon to send them all at once, even if it meant waiting longer but Amazon didn’t. So I got four boxes: one for each of the frames that I ordered.

Gift it to a guy

I purchased this Lawrence frame in dark brown leather as a gift for my boyfriend because it looked masculine. And, I wasn’t disappointed. I was worried that it would look or feel cheap, but those fears were unfounded. So, if you’ve got a guy you’re gifting for … graduation, birthday, housewarming, new baby, etc … this is a nice option.

Bonded leather is realy vinyl or polyurethane with a very small amount of shreds of leather in it. It is not leather at all and the term is deceptive.

Well, this was a wasted $23.00. The delivery was extremely quick; looked fine unwrapped, WAS fine; unwrapped, as far the frame itself went (even though I realized afterward that the hanging accessories were not included, and the frame had no hanger attached), but the big problem was the plexiglass itself. It had a big, unavoidable manufacturing smear flaw in the middle of it, rendering it unuseable. As the other reviewer noted, trying to repackage this stuff and return it (even if they accept it as their fault – how do I prove it?) is useless. So the best resort is this forum, to pass on this experience – please, buyer beware. If you do need this sort of product, it might be wiser to actually visit a Targets or K-Mart, etc. The return will be easier.

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY

I just received this product, opened it and was in SHOCK(and horror). Did you plan on hanging whatever it is you’re framing? YOU CANT, theres a paper backing that no nail could hold up. Tongs hold it in place(and rip your photo/poster up) and the BADLY painted black exterior is chipping!

But – days after I had thrown away the shipping materials – when I went to mount the picture I had intended for the frame, I discovered the plexi-glass is broken.
To return the item is too inconveneint.

Imagine being capable to frame your own photographs, prints, tapestries, and art as well as a professional. Picture framing is genuinely rather fun and easy to DIY. There are 5 easy steps to framing.

Step 1 – How to Cut Mats

Adding a colour border (the mat) around your art enhances the picture and provides a restful area among the effigy and the picture frame. The colour and size of the mat board must be decisive first, as this will determine the overall dimensions of your picture frame. You begin by calculating the external size of the mat.

To cut the mat use a good quality bevel mat cutter and ruler. There are assorted cutting systems to suit respective budgets and skill levels, including the Mat Master Model 660 for the hobbyists, to the Mat Master 860B or 1060B for the keen home picture framer.

Mark the borders to be cut on the back of the mat board.

Make sure the mat will cover the edges of the artwork, by subtracting approx. 3mm or 1/8″ from the effigy size (length & width). Cut the mat following the instructions for your mat cutter. Attach the picture to the mat using 2 little pieces of acid free tape on the top edge only.

Step 2 – How to Cut the Picture Frame

How much picture frame moulding material will I need? Carefully measure the picture and mat you wish to frame. Add an extra (3mm) for “play” to ascertain the picture fits without apparent effort into the finished picture frame.

Add the length (L) and width (W) together, then multiply the total by 2 to give you the overall length. You also have to concede for the mitre cuts, so multiply the width (W2) of the moulding by 10 and add this to your total.

(L + W) x 2 + (W2 x 10) = TOTAL

Making the 45 degree mitre cut in your framing material is most essential – your joining will only be as good as your cutting. Always use a good quality manual Mitre Saw… we commend the Proman hand saw which is made in Sweden as the best on the market. Electric powered Drop Saws are not idealisti for cutting little delicate picture frames.

Good Measure System helps to make measuring easy and does away with a lot of mistakes. Once you have cut the introductory mitre, slide the picture frame material along to the required length on the measuring scale, and set the stop. You are now ready to cut the primary 2 pieces of your picture frame. Change the settings to cut the other 2 sides of the frame.

Cutting one side for a frame is easy.

Cutting the second side to be be the same as the first, is the hard part. With the FrameCo Ezy-Measure System you may cut accurately each time.

Step 3 – How to Clamp Frames

How do you Clamp the Frame? Clamping the frame tightly is necessary for good joining. You may use the a Cord Clamp, or the Steel Strap Clamp to secure the picture frame ready for joining.

The vantage of the Strap Clamp is that you may see all the four corners of the picture frame clamped together before joining. So alignment of the corners is easy.

All corners must match up evenly. Apply a little wood glue to all corners of the frame for added strength. Carefully tension the clamp making sure that the corners are aligned then secure the clamp tightly.

You are now ready for joining.

Step 4 – How to Join Frames

Most picture frames are joined with a V-Nail. This is the easiest method and it is what the professional picture framer uses. The FrameCo PushMaster joining tool, inserts V-Nails into the corner of the frame. Two V-Nails in each corner is ordinarily all that is necessary.

The PushMaster may be applied by hand alone on most picture frames, or you may tap the PushMaster with a mallet if the frame is hardwood. The PushMaster may be upgraded to the BenchMaster® which will insert V-Nails into the harderst of timbers.

V-nails: How do they work?

Upon entry, the sides of the V-Nail are deflected outwards. As it pulls back into it is original shape, the join is pulled together. The little curl on the edge of the V-Nail locks the nail into the grain of the timber. Glue alone is not sufficient for strong stable joints, by adding a V-Nail you achieve a strong, tight joint. Which V-Nail size . . . You use a V-Nail with regards to 1/2 the frame height.

Sizes are: 7mm – 1/4″, 10mm – 3/8″, 12mm – 1/2″, 15mm – 5/8″

Step 5 – How to Finish Frames

Take the empty picture frame to a glass merchandiser and have them cut a piece of glass for you. If you wish to cut glass yourself use a good quality oil filled cutter, or the Glass Cutter. Use only 2mm plain or non-reflective glass.

Fome Core is the idealisti backing board as it is light weight, acid free and easy to cut. You may likewise use 3mm MDF or cardboard. Place the empty frame face down and insert the glass, then the matted picture and lastly the backing board.

Use the PushMaster to insert brads or flexipoints into the rear of your picture frame to hold everything in place.

Use Backing Nails for big frames or heavy items. Flexipoints are flexible and idealisti for needlework or when you want to re move the picture, eg. photo frames.

To seal the art in the frame, tape over the brads/flexipoints using a good quality backing tape. This will prevent dust or insects getting into the picture.

To hang your picture, again use your PushMaster tool. Measure one third down the side of the picture frame from the top and mark that spot. Place a screw eye into the slot provided in the end of the Pushmaster tool, then screw the eye into the frame. Repeat on the other side and then attach wire from one side to the other.

Excellent Value!

I needed an extra large digital photo frame that did video as well for a traveling display, and the NIX was certainly the right price, and had the right “functional” look for where I need it (no wood frame, and no artificial picture matting). Overall it is best frame I have yet used (I own two smaller and have done a lot of shopping). Brightness and color are excellent. Processing power seems up to any jpeg you might throw at it. Controls and navigation are the best I have seen yet.

The only drawback is that it DOES NOT play HD video, and, despite what the website and instructions say, I have not been able to get it to play any .mp4 file, or MPEG-4 coded file, at all…or for that matter, .avi which they also claim it will play. On the other hand, my 720p HD video plays fine when transcoded to 720×576 Letterbox style, MPEG-2, with MPEG-1, Layer 2 audio. (I use a free converter called “Free Video Converter by Extensoft”…quick and easy.) Once transcoded, the video looks very good! You would not guess it is no longer HD.

This really does, for me, take the place of a laptop and monitor for my travel. Excellent, and a great value.

it’s all about the BIG SCREEN!

i personally own a 12″ frame and love the big size. So when it came to getting a friend a house warming gift it seemed logical to go with the BIG SCREEN!

this frame is fairly straight forward and the pro’s and con’s are:

PRO’s:

-big screen, with nice clear image
-easy menu system and operation
-plays video and music
-easy remote control
-big internal memory
-strong, solid build

Con’s:

-not as stylish as the 12″ nix
-if you’re after a frame that can do complex stuff like internet connection or play HD video this is not for you
-could do with bigger speakers

if you want to play photos and video and do it simply, this is the frame for you. if you want to do photo editing etc, maybe not. overall i would definitely recommend it.

Nix is a quality package

The last digital frame I had did not provide a random shuffle when displaying the pictures. It also forced me to organize photos into folders no greater than 999 photos per folder. I really was not enjoying the 2500 photos that I wanted to display. I ordered NIX X15A and immediately liked the product. It showed up in simple packaging, was easy to set up and now I am enjoying all of my photos.

You may not be conscious but your digital photo frame is likely to be capable to play video. Have you ever walked by a product with a little TV screen explaining all in regards to the product. Great alarm clock with lots of features.

As the title says, it’s a great alarm clock but it’s really not meant for displaying your photos because the screen is too small. This is an Alarm Clock with benefits. It wakes you up in the morning and you can glance over in the evening to see one of your photos and you’ll say, “I remember when I took that.”

Pros:
3 alarm tones
Displays your photos
Lots of settings
8 minute snooze
Easy to use
Automatically turns on/off

Cons:
To small for displaying your photos to others. (who cares, it’s in your bedroom)
Goes into Slideshow when I turn it on. I would rather it be Calendar mode.

Other notes:
Music mode is decent.
Snooze stops working after the second time you press it. May be a good thing or a bad thing.
It forces you to get up or you could fall asleep after second snooze and be late for work.

Great for the office

I bought this compact Coby picture frame to take advantage of the many digital pics that we take on vacation and at family gatherings. All too often they sit on the PC not doing much of anything. This would give me a nice alternative to the traditional picture frame. Its strength is also its shortcoming. The small footprint on this mini picture frame allows you to place it almost anywhere. But its certainly not the showplace that many larger digital photo frames might be.

To maximize your enjoyment of this little wonder, you’ll want to have an SD card on hand. It doesn’t need to be huge. In fact, if you’ve been looking to upgrade the card in the family DSLR, this might be your chance. A simple 1 gig card should me more than abundant for a decent stream of photos.

There are a few other onboard features in this compact picture frame. The calendar mode is effective as a calendar, period. If you squint really hard you’ll see there is a thumbnail slideshow, with images smaller than a traditional postage stamp. Not really sure why the folks at Coby even bothered. There is also a passable music player that will allow you to provide an mp3 soundtrack to your slideshow. Its not going to replace your trusty iPod, or even your favorite FM radio. That said, I was able to listen to a ripped CD without any real gripes. Again, a nice compliment to the office workspace, as it will provide you your own personal soundtrack without annoying fellow co-workers.

Gripes are minor. In addition to the peculiar micro slideshow in calendar mode the slot for memory leaves the SD card hanging out and exposed. The base certainly seems deep enough that they could have enveloped the whole card or at least slid it further into the frame housing. A curious choice in my estimation.

I feel this little frame delivered some nice bang for the buck. It capably displays my personal photos and offers some additional features, all at a very reasonable price. Glad I discovered it.

Pros: It does what it says. The display is nice and crisp.

Cons: Choosing different options in different modes in awkward. When it starts it always goes to the menu rather than clock or photo view. You can’t pause the photo slide show and keep listening to music.

Any vehicle is subject to wear and tear and so is any share of the vehicle. No matter how highpriced and reputed, there is no change to this rule. Same is the case with the steering wheel of the 1995 Chevy Truck. The only way to get out of this problem is to replace the steering wheel with a new one.

Step 1: Disconnect the Negative Terminal

First of all make sure you keep a open wrench handy. This would be utile to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. You will now have to locate the airbag. Leave the vehicle to sit for closely 30 minutes before you proceed.

Step 2: Pop the Airbag Off the Wheel

For this step, you will have to turn on the ignition of the truck and turn the steering wheel in the clockwise direction. Once you are competent to locate the hole behind the steering wheel, use the screwdriver to fetch out the airbag from the wheel.

Step 3: Remove the Wiring

You have only partially done your occupation with the airbag. Next you have to turn the steering wheel of the 1995 Chevy truck anticlockwise. You will have to rotate the wheel for up to 180 degrees in the process. Now the airbag is accessible to you and you may disconnect the wiring harness with ease.

Step 4: Unbolt the Steering Wheel

The next evident step is to unbolt the center bolt. This is located at the center of the wheel. The puller will have to be driven in using the right ratchet and socket. Tightening the nut lying at the center of the puller will aid us pull the steering wheel off the column.

As seen, replacing the wheel is a matter of a few minutes and will require the right tools to come to your rescue. Once done, the discouraging and hindering truck will mechanically be transformed into a pleasure to drive

Agree with the other reviewers, this is a very well made product; once you get it on your wheel, it’s not going to move and adds a nice, soft feel to the steering wheel, particularly over a stock one. As pointed out, it does add quite a bit of bulk over the stock, so as long as you don’t have a problem with that, I would definitely recommend this cover. Don’t try to pull it on from opposite sides, that would be nearly impossible, just place it on one side, then run your finger/thumb along the inside of the cover where it is already on, and work it along the rest of the cover.

Huge improvement

I bought the Pilot leather cover for the steering wheel of an old Maxima whose steering wheel was shedding leather bits and looking mighty sad. The quality of the new cover appears excellent, it is thick, somewhat pliant to the hands, and nicely dyed black. The appearance of the steering wheel is much improved with this cover.

It took some strength to fit it over the existing wheel. A buyer should be aware of that. It does, by its nature, make the steering wheel thicker so the feel will be different. And, at least on my steering wheel, the inner portion of the old steering wheel is visible under the new cover.

The product really is better than I expected and does dress up the appearance of that old steering wheel. Replacement or professional recovering for my car is very expensive and this is a MUCH more practical answer.

Best I’ve used

Most steering wheel covers I’ve come accross are cheap in quality and appearance. Unless you look closely you can’t tell this is not factory. You will have to get used to the addtional thickness of the wheel once installed but it’s not too bad. HINT – place the cover in the dryer for about 20 minutes to soften it up and it installs easily!

A remarkable protector for your paint…

Over the years, I’ve tried so many polishes and waxes for my vehicles that I’ve lost count. Yes, many are quite good and serve a unique purpose. But I’ve learned a couple of things.
Carnauba wax, which is touted as the “cat’s meow” in car finishes, doesn’t impress me much. First, the best carnaubas cost a fortune. Then, they’re a pain to apply and buff. And on top of all that, carnaubas (being a “natural” product) eventually turn yellow and break down.
One of the fabulous things about “Liquid Glass”is that it does NOT break down and turn your finish yellow. It applies easily. buffs easily, and truly gleams! I saw a Liquid Glass sales demonstration once where they took a lit cigarette and laid it down on the hood of a car that had been waxed with Liquid Glass. It actually protected the paint from any damage.Don’t expect that from carnauba or anything else.
Liquid Glass is the longest lasting wax I’ve ever used. It will keep on beading water and protecting your vehicle’s paint long after you’ve applied it. Don’t let the name “polish” fool you. This product doesn’t need wax (or anything else) laid on top of it.
One last “testimonial”. My father-in-law has a vintage Mustang and is soooo fussy about his paint finish; he loves a shiny car. I lent him my Liquid Glass, and now it’s the only product he uses.

Been a customer since 1986. Excellent product!

I started using Liquid Glass back in 1986. At the time it had a great reputation, both for it’s quality and it’s price. It took a lot of faith to pass over the $2 Turtle Wax for the $16 Liquid Glass, but it was well worth it. I have used it ever since. It goes on very easily, and buffs off without much effort. You can use it on your car’s finish and on the glass. Ever wonder if your car wax will turn yellow with age? Well, Liquid Glass doesn’t, and you can check that by applying it to your windows. Liquid Glass lasts longer on your windshield than Rain-X does as well.
There have been a lot of fad waxes and polishes to come along in the last 23 years, each with a promise of a better shine or better protection than Liquid Glass. They are all fine products, but I have never had any reason to switch. I have used Liquid Glass on my last four cars, plus several family members car and it always performs excellently. It’s the best protection for my car’s finish that I could buy.

The Best Ever

Liquid Glass Ultimate Auto Polish (16 oz.)I am 63 years old and have used about every brand of wax out there. Nothing compares to ease of applying and removing Liquid Glass. Sun or shade,buff in 10 minutes or an hour still comes off as easy as dusting furniture. Does not leave white residue or any swirl marks, easier to remove by hand instead of buffer. The company says that a minimum of 25 coats will make this chip resistant. I am doing this daily just to the front end. The shine is as good or better than I have ever seen. I will stop looking for the best, I have found it!
Bought a bottle of Black Magic, the highest rated according to Consumer Reports,used twice and threw the bottle away because of product performance.

Great for my 3-story townhouse

I registered for this basket because I live in a 3-story townhouse and thought that having a “portable” bed for my baby would be handy. I was right – and this basket definitely fits the bill.

It’s a beautiful basket, made of soft woven grass — it’s flexible and soft, not rigid and scratchy like wicker might be. The foam pad in the bottom is about 1-1/2 inches thick and is firm, so no worries about suffocation. And it’s perfect for carrying my sleeping son from one floor to another without waking him.

The literature that comes with the basket says it’s ok to use for children weighing up to 20 pounds; I get the feeling that my little boy will be too long for the basket before he reaches 20 pounds, but that’s ok. The important thing for me was to have a way to move him from floor-to-floor while he was nursing every 3 hours. The basket is a little smaller than a standard bassinet; I’ve been using bassinet sheets on it and just pulling the extra fabric under the pad. Works like a charm.

I’d reccommend this to anyone who is considering a bassinet…especially if space is an issue or if you have a multi-floor house!

Lifesaver and very cute!

One was given to us as a gift and at first I wasn’t excited about it. When my son first came home it wasn’t much fun getting up to check on him every ten minutes when he was asleep in his crib (he slept A LOT during his first couple months). So I remembered this and dug it out. I could put him in this and carry him anywhere in the house without waking him. I could cook while keeping an eye on him, sit on the couch and not have to get up when he cried, ect. Not to mention it’s very portable so you can take it with you when visiting family for a nice safe place for baby to nap. I was very dissapointed when he outgrew it.

Not only Beautiful, but Versatile as Well!!!

When shopping for my new grandson, this beautiful basket immediately took my eye and I had to purchase it. I continued shopping-filling it with his lst Teddy Bear and other items. Looking at it I could not only see a newborn nestled amongst the eyelets, but the opportunities of future use. For now this basket will serve as a miniature bassinett when he visits and later may be utilized to hold all of his special toys, books and keepsakes. As he outgrows it- I can see it utilized in a number of ways…plants, flowers, books and even maybe the cat.

You left the car window down or the sunroof open and there’s a water stain in your car’s leather seat….or your girlfriend spilled here red wine in your leather car seat on a night out on the town….or your kids decisive they were a soon to be artisan and tried their proficiencies out on your leather car seat with a pen, arrggg. Got kids myself, so feel your pain. Stain remotion in leather seats may be tough, here’s a few tricks to aid get you going.

As a professional leather fix specialist I’m here to tell you that there are not to a good deal of productions that may be employed on a leather car seat that won’t remove the finish before removing the stain. Most leather in today’s cars is a finished leather with a water borne urethane leather dye applied to it and is finelooking susceptible to chemicals and may be got rid of gorgeous effortlessly with a solvent cleaner. So when in doubt call a professional.

Water stains in Leather Seat….this is a finelooking hard one to get rid of. I not long back had reader send me an email on how he could get the water stains out of his car after leaving his sunroof open. This percentage is kinda for him taking into account I think I lost his email with pictures, I did get to see them though, so not all was lost. The pictures showed a crease that ran along the middle of the leather seat where the water had puckered the leather. In this type of circumstance there are two things we could do, one is sand the crease out and with a good deal of fillers and dye make the seat new again, this is where a leather professional comes in to play, or alternate of the division that is creased, that’s where an upholstery shop comes in. In these type of situations there aren’t any leather conditioners or cleaners in the world that will remove a creased or puckered leather, what happens is the actual structure of the fibers in the leather have been altered and what you see is what you have.

If the water hasn’t puckered the leather and has just left a stain, a little trick I learned from my good friend Dwain Berlin with Leather Craft Secrets, and you go to your bread box in the kitchen for this one. Take a piece of bread and roll it up into a ball and rub and blot the area with the bread ball, works beauteous good. Dwain has a lot of outstanding counsel for leather care, and if your mesmerized in numerous outstanding fun with leather go check out his book, it’s rather impressive and I myself learned a few things.

Most of the time water will just evaporate and with no troubles and the stains will disappear. If your car leather gets wet arid it as best you may with a towel and then condition it with your Lexol Conditioner. One way to arid the cars leather is by leaving the windows down and setting it in the sun to dry, or crack the windows and turn your car on with the heat on full blast and let it run for regarding 30 minutes. I’m not real hip on that one cause it’s a waste of gas but it does work to arid things out better. But always condition, a lot of rain waters are gorgeous dirty and harsh and the leather needs those extra nutrients to keep it soft.

If the stains are just too bad then new leather dye is the only way to fetch it back then call your local leather professional like me to come and make it new again.

Mold Stains in Leather Seat….Or mildew which ever. This one kinda goes along with the water stains. Take and mix a cup of water and a cup of rubbing alcohol and mix them together, take a towel and rub a little amount of the solution onto the stained areas, until the spot is gone, again watch for dye lift, this trick works beauteous well and commonly removes the mildew gorgeous quick without dye removal.

Food Stains in Leather Seat….This one may be an easy one if you just don’t eat in your car, but I’m just as guilty as most and eat on the run. A mild dish soap and warm water with a rag or scotch brite pad will do the trick in most cases. Most automotive leather is finished and feed stuffs normally will wipe right off. If you run into a stubborn one altho try a little all-purpose degreaser on a rag, don’t rub too much or dye may lift. If the stain on your leather car seat from feed doesn’t come up with this then the dye from the feed has penetrated the fibers of the leather and has dyed it, so it’s time for a professional leather dye job.

Aniline leather or NuBuck leather is a dissimilar story though, thats the soft stuff you see as an inserted piece commonly in the middle of the seats. You may use the soapy solution but water spots at times show up, so a special cleaner works best for this kind of leather. One I suggest is from the guys over at Leather Magic, they have a NuBuck Leather Care Kit that is the answer to all your NuBack needs. This kit includes cleaners and conditioners for the soft stuff, this type of leather is delicate and ought to be treated as such. Don’t use your usual leather cleaners and conditioners on this type of leather due to fact of the oils in them will harm the look of the leather, then no more soft sentiment NuBuck, so definatly check out Leather Magics NuBuck Kit.

Ink, Marker, and Crayon on Leather Seat….Urgent!!! Get to it as soon as you can! If the ink is fresh you have a better probability of removing it from the leather then not. Rubbing alcohol, with a little bit of acetone added will at times get it. I’ve heard of hairspray, tried it with not much luck. Usually when an ink pen and leather come together they marry and don’t split to easily. Ink is a dye and is made to penetrate whatsoever it comes into contact with. Most ink spots I’ve ran into I’ve commonly had to dye the leather to cover the spot.

Crayon on a leather seat may be a booger if it’s melted in the seat, you may undertake this but be careful not to burn or pucker your leather. Take an iron and a paper towel and lay the paper towel over the crayon and with a low heat rub the iron over the paper towel over the crayon. The crayon will melt into the paper towel, move the towel around to clean spots until the crayon is gone, a little of rubbing alcohol ought to remove the remaining. This trick works on carpet and cloth too. If they’re just marks on the leather seat a little soap and water must do the trick or even a little rubbing alcohol on a towel works good to. If all fails there is a product from Protective Products Corp. that is all natural with no solvents that will remove crayon and lipstick it’s called Solv-It, but just like anything undertake a spot in an unsuspecting spot to see if it removes dye.

One last trick that I’ve read when it comes to around the net and am in the routine of testing it, but it the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, they do work around the house, so why not the car too. I’ve got rid of crayon and marks on my walls before with them, I do detect it take a little paint with it though, but they do work. If you use one, be careful and don’t go ape sh$#, rub it then look, rub it then look, they will remove dye, so when using it take your time and check it as you go.

Sweat Stains in Leather Seat ….Salt stains from sweat may be beauteous gross looking, but there is a little trick. Take and make a solution of 3 parts vinegar and one part water and wet a towel and rub the area clean, the vinegar breaks down the and helps to remove the stain.

Paint on Leather Seat….Paint removal on a leather car seat, well that ones a hard one. If it has dried it’s probably there to stay. If it’s a water color, just use soap and water to remove it. Latex house paint, you may try a little Goof Off but keep in mind this is a solvent and may harm the leather seat and remove dye. I have in the past been capable to take my pocket knife and scrape it off. Wet the area firstborn with a little water and lightly try to lift the paint off with your knife or even a razor blade, but don’t cut the leather. Mostly altho this actually doesn’t work without removing the dye underneath, but I have had luck sometimes. If it is car paint, undertake a little paint reducer on a rag, but just wipe lightly and don’t soak the area with the reducer. Solvents and leather seats just don’t mix.

My best counsel to all when it come to stains in your leather car seats, and that is to be conscious of what you do, try to keep our little Picasso’s pen free, keep our feed out of our cars, roll the windows up and sunroofs closed, and always do not forget to treat the leather with your Lexol Conditioner on a regular basis, this helps to keep the leather car seats protected and soft and makes it requiring little effort to get the spills and accidents from turning into disasters.

Fantastic device – pick your Kindle!

Having been a little overwhelmed by the choices between all the new Kindles and which one to get, I ordered this new basic $79 Kindle first to take for a spin. So far, I like what I see. I also own a Kindle 3 so that’s the only device I can really compare it to at this time (I think a comparison between other tablets and this Kindle is meaningless, this device is all about content and delivery):

1. Form-factor – Compared to the Kindle 3, this Kindle feels more compact, lighter and easier to hold. My hands wrap around this better than K3. Reading books for a few hours at a stretch will be easier on this device compared to the K3. It is the lightest such device I have used compared to all previous Kindles and other tablets.

2. Screen – I personally like the fact that there are no keys on the device and that keys come up on the screen when you need them. Delivers a better overall reading experience. However, navigating through the on-screen keyboard with the 5-way controller can be taxing if you need to do a lot of searching, and you might miss the full physical keyboard. I hardly search on the Kindle itself, I search for books on my laptop so this is a non-issue.

3. Price! – At $79, you can’t go wrong. Compared to buying paperback or hardcover editions, you will recover the cost of this in a matter of a few months because most Kindle content is priced cheaper than print editions (and you get it instantly, and can access it wherever you are). Not to mention all the free Kindle downloads available in the catalog.

4. Display – almost the same E-ink display at the K3. No glare no reflection. You can sit in bright sunlight and read it just like a book. Page turns seem a lot faster on this compared to the K3. Screen size of the Kindle 3, this new Kindle, and the Touch is exactly the same in size.

5. Wi-Fi – this can be a pro or a con (no 3G) depending on a user’s personal preference. If you travel often and would like to be able to download content anywhere without worrying about getting a wi-fi connection, you’re better off sticking with the K3 or waiting for the Touch/Fire. For me, 3G is not a major issue.

6. Text to Speech and Audiobooks – These two features are lacking in this device. I personally have never used these features on my K3. If you listen to audiobooks or TTS or music on your Kindle, again the K3/Touch/Fire might be better options.

7. Storage – this device can store 2GB which they claim is approximately 1400 books. For me, that’s a massive storage capacity and it will be years before I get close to that capacity. Again, if you download books occasionally and have a moderate Kindle downloaded content on your device, 2GB is plenty. Of course, think ahead and see how much you would expect to download in the coming 2 years (I am assuming the device will be outdated and replaced within this time-frame).

8. Battery life – too early to tell but Kindle battery life tends to be great. Specs state that the battery life of this device is 1 month compared to 2 months for the Touch or K3. 1 month is plenty (Android phones need to be charged every hour!). At least I know that if I’m going on a long flight, this device won’t need charging if I charge it up in advance.

9. Power adapter – this Kindle does not come with a power adapter, only a USB charging cable. You can either buy it separately for $8-10, or use your existing USB power adapter. Any USB adapter would work with the charging cable (previous Kindle versions, Apple’s portable devices, and most HTC phones, come with a standard USB power adapter that would work for this device). There are also plenty of $2-3 adapters available here if you search for USB chargers.

Bottom line – the choice between this basic Kindle, the K3 Keyboard, the Touch, and the Fire is really a personal preference. This device itself is meant for the minimalist Kindle user who, like me, reads say a 2-3 books a month, wants a device comfortable to hold, and doesn’t need any fancy bells and whistles on the device. I guess it depends on what you use your Kindle for. If it’s just the basics, this is the perfect device to get.

In my humble opinion, the choices:

(i) If you have a DX or an old Kindle version, or if you don’t have a Kindle yet and are an average book-reader, this is definitely the one to get – baseline model that is affordable and is a pure e-reader.

(ii) If you have Kindle 3 and don’t really need an upgrade, I recommend sticking with the K3, it’s a better device than this one in terms of features. If you do need to upgrade, the Touch is probably a better option because of all the additional features, at a small incremental cost.

(iii) If you’re looking for the loaded full-on Amazon content experience with access to all the apps, streaming audio and video, and playing the “strangely therapeutic” Fruit Ninja, wait for the Fire!

I sincerely hope this review helps you decide whether this Kindle is right for you. If you are still unable to make a decision, it may be worthwhile to wait for the Touch and Fire to be released, and see the reviews on those devices before making a final decision.

Facts to Consider when Buying This Kindle Instead of Others

First off, I received my new Kindle this morning. I previously owned the Kindle Keyboard, but actually really didn’t like the keyboard or the way the buttons were pressed together. I’m not a fan of touch screens so I bought this one.

There are a few things to know about this particular Kindle that can help you decide if it’s right for you…

Here is a list of things to know about this Kindle.

1. You’ll be using an onscreen keyboard with the 5-Way Controller. This is not a problem for setting up WiFi and a little writing but if you are an avid note-taker or do a lot of writing with your Kindle, you might want to opt for the Kindle Keyboard.
2. NO AUDIO – If you are planning on listening to audiobooks, Mp3s, or Text to Speech on your Kindle, this is not the device for you. There is not even a headphone jack, so there is absolutely no audio support.
3. 2GB! This device has 2GB of storage, which is half of all the others… if you seriously need to keep over 1,400 books or so on your Kindle, you should opt for one of the others, all of which have 4GB. I only keep a hundred or so books on mine and the rest are up in the Amazon Cloud waiting for convenient download.
4. There’s no 3G version but the WiFi works just fine.
5. There is a shorter battery life. Amazon reports the battery life is only one month of reading, compared with the others that clock in at two months. If you are going to be away from electricity for over a month, first of all RESPECT!, second of all, you may want a Kindle that has the 2 month battery life.
6. It’s lighter than all the other versions. It weighs in at just under 6oz (170g). The closest competition is the Kindle Touch which is about 7.5oz.
7. It has 5 buttons on the face at the bottom. In the middle is the big 5-Way Controller button as found on other Kindles. There are two small buttons on either side of this. On the left side, from left to right are the “Back” button and the “Keyboard” button. The “Back” button is the same as on other Kindles. The “Keyboard” button calls the onscreen keyboard onto the screen. On the right side of the 5-Way Controller are (again, from left to right) the “Menu” button, and the “Home” button. The “Next Page” and “Previous Page” buttons are the same as on other Kindles.
8. Because of the above 5 buttons, I find it much easier to use than the Kindle Keyboard. On the Kindle Keyboard, the “Back” button was right below the 5-Way Controller, and I accidentally hit it on more than one occasion.
9. On the bottom there is only the mini-USB port, the charging light, and the On-Off Button.
10. There are not a whole lot of covers available for this Kindle yet. (Amazon’s won’t be available until the end of October.)

As for reading, and as a pure reading device. It is awesome… in fact, without the keyboard, audio, and other features I don’t need. This is actually the best one for someone like me who just wants to read.

I’ve already successfully transferred my library, downloaded books over WiFi, and borrowed library books through the Overdrive Library eBooks System. My only small point of dissatisfaction is that there are so few good covers and accessories right now (though there ARE some available that look pretty good).

All in all, I believe this is the BEST of all the Kindles currently available. Only consider others if you:
a. Really want the touch screen version.
b. Need audio.
c. Need 4GB
d. Need a big Kindle DX.
e. Take a lot of notes or do a lot of writing that requires a keyboard.
f. Prefer the design of another version.
g. Need more than a month’s battery power.

Hope this helps someone make a good decision!

(Brief update: I love this Kindle, but right now the scarcity of good, inexpensive covers for it is a little troubling. The Amazon made leather one with light won’t be available until November or so and there are currently no inexpensive ones to use in the interim. I’ll just have to use it gently for a month or so.)

I mentioned this in the comments section, but I’ll repeat it here for people who can’t yet find a good case -

Checking the specifications for the Kindle, Nook Touch, and Kobo:
Nook Touch
6.5 x 5 x 0.5 inches
Kobo Reader

It looks like the Kobo is about exactly the same size and the Nook Touch is slightly longer. If you need a case but can’t find one that you like yet, it may be worth a little hunting to see if a nook or kobo case or cover might fit the bill.

The most compact Kindle yet. Extremely legible display, snappy performance

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RWG7OQ5NMGUMW I was thrilled to receive my new Kindle. I ordered it Sep 28, chose overnight shipping and it arrived (Sep 29) just a few minutes ago. Usually I use a device for a while before reviewing it. In this case, I felt it was important to do a quick review right away because if it can help you in your purchasing decision, so much the better.

If you are a little perplexed with all the various Kindle models and are wondering if this Is the Kindle for you, here are a few questions for you to consider…

1. Do you need text to speech capability or have the desire to listen to mp3′s on your Kindle? If you can live without that, then proceed. This Kindle does not have a speaker thus is not capable of text to speech or playing sounds of any kind including mp3′s.

2. Is color important to you? This is not a color Kindle, it is gray-scale. If you are mostly wanting to read books then this will work for you exceedingly well. The e-ink screen is gorgeous, sharp and provides the ability to change font size, font face and line spacing. It even displays photos quite nicely, but in gray-scale. And you can even zoom in on images.

3. Is a physical keyboard a necessity for you? If you like to make notes and annotations while reading, you may want to look at another model Kindle that has a physical keyboard. Although this Kindle has a screen-based keyboard, it is tedious to type more than a few words or URL’s. It works very well for minimal typing but it’s not for you if you need more than that.

4. Is compact size important for you? Then this is the one to get. It’s thin, light and diminutive in size. Slips easily into a purse, pocket or inside pocket. It is so light which makes holding and reading with one hand for longer periods of time very easy.

5. Do you want to be able to occasionally use a web browser to access a web site? Well surprise surprise, you can do that on this Kindle. It’s an “experimental” feature but it works quite well. It’s been experimental for years, so I’m not quite sure why it’s still labeled experimental. But in any case you can visit websites, save bookmarks and it works.

I also own the original Kindle with the SD card slot. Compared to the original Kindle, this new one is svelte. Thinner, lighter and notably, the e-ink on this new Kindle is vastly improved. In low interior lighting with gray overcast lighting outside, I’m able to easily read the Kindle. It is amazing how the screen almost glows, as if it were backlit. Of course it is not backlit and in fact will not work in the dark. But if you have a small reading light, that solves that problem. Otherwise in most other situations you will pleased with the excellent sharpness and clarity of the Kindle text.

Page “turning” was very snappy to me especially when compared to my old Kindle. The black page flash that occurs on every page turn on the old Kindle does not occur nearly as frequently with the new Kindle. It now occurs after every 5 page turns.

The fact that there is no physical keyboard means that this Kindle is absolutely the easiest to carry Kindle ever. Fits nicely in the hand and the slightly grippy surface makes you feel secure in holding it… it will not easily slip out of your hand.

Setup was a breeze. The Kindle immediately identified my Wi-Fi network and as soon as I entered my password using the onscreen keyboard, I was good to go. Signal strength indicated very high on the Kindle and I did not notice any degradation in signal no matter how I handled it.

As concerns the onscreen keyboard, it was easy and intuitive to use. I don’t expect to have to use it very often and for me I’d rather have no physical keyboard because that makes the Kindle smaller and easier to pack and go.

You still get the typical Kindle tools, such as Highlighting, Notes, Annotations, Public Notes and a few others. You can upload PDF and TXT files and view them. You can easily transfer prior Kindle purchases to your new Kindle. You have the ability to create “collections” Once you’ve created a collection, you add items to it and this is a great way to organize many books.

I have not had this model long enough to comment on battery life, but I’m sure that based on my previous Kindle and the specifications that it will excel. I believe that reading 1/2 hour a day will let you go a month before needing a charge if Wi-Fi is off. That’s pretty awesome. It is charged via the included USB cable and that can be from your computer or via an AC to USB power adapter, or in-car power port USB adapter.

And don’t worry that the memory has decreased in this Kindle. There is still more than enough memory to hold well over 1000 books. And you archive books too which means they are just a click and a few seconds away from being downloaded back to your Kindle from the Amazon Cloud.

Regarding the ads… they are not objectionable. In fact (don’t tell this to the advertisers) I didn’t even notice that there was an advertisement on the home screen until I deliberately looked for it. It takes up just a small portion of the bottom of the screen and is no taller than an inch in height. I don’t know for sure whether all ads are the same size but the one I’m looking at is very unobtrusive. The screensaver ads are full page and don’t bother me at all. And of course, you may just end up getting a good deal on something. I LIKE the ads. Just today I got a couple from an ad that saves me $5 on a $10 Amazon purchase in addition to my choice of a selected list of Mystery/Thriller books for only $1. Love the deals!

I think Amazon has another winner on its hands with this ad-supported Kindle. You just can’t beat it for reading and I’m so glad I got it.

UPDATE: 10/16/2011 – I had the opportunity to compare the display of my new Kindle with that of a friends who had a Kindle with keyboard. I’m not sure how old his is, but his display actually had a somewhat lighter colored background which made the legibility slightly better in my opinion. I was quite happy with the clarity, sharpness and contrast of my new Kindle until I compared with him. Now I’m a little conflicted. It’s still great, don’t get me wrong, But it’s not an improvement necessarily over the previous generation as far as I can tell. It’s also possible that there are variations in the e-ink display depending on the luck of the draw. I may question Amazon about this and will report back here if I do. I’d still get this in a heartbeat, but just wanted to let you know about the contrast issue.

UPDATE: 10/17/2011 – There is a new firmware update for the Kindle that addresses the page refresh issue. The new version is 4.0.1 If installed, you will see an additional option in the Settings panel on page 3 called “Page Refresh.” This allows you to have the Kindle refresh the page at each page turn (the screen flashes black briefly.) Otherwise the Kindle will not refresh the page until after each 5 page turns.

UPDATE: 10/19/2011 – I called Amazon Kindle Support to discuss the screen darkness issue I mentioned above. They said they’d send a replacement which I’ve just received. I’m happy to say that the screen background is in fact -slightly- lighter in color on the new Kindle I just received. I’m happy and probably would have still been happy had I not replaced it. But at least I am psychologically satisfied now. The difference in background color was extremely subtle so I wouldn’t worry at all about it if you are happy with your newly purchased $79 Kindle. However there do seem to be some circulating that are more obviously darker and if yours is one of those, then contact Amazon.

For galore strange reasons, I like designing flower tattoos more than others.
